Nothing new in the story. The old Democratic machine used them to beat out more intelligent black candidates and gags were used to elect presidents(remember W. Clement Stone). The article fails to mention the alliances that white alderman had with the mob and the alliances Latino alderman have with Latino street gangs(remember Munoz father running bogus id ring).
While they dismissed these meetings, the question was never asked could these meetings provide some solutions to the violence we are seeing on our streets? The police don’t seem to have the answer maybe these guys do.
We all know the long history of Political and Criminal Alliances (for example, old man Daley in the 1960 national election).
However, on this blog, the focus is on the “here and now” that affects the Black community.
The article did mention both White and Latino aldermen.
If an alliance between the aldermen and street gangs had resulted in less violence, I haven’t seen the positive results.
